We learn that humility is accepting the truth about ourselves in light of the truth about God so that we depend upon Him and He gets the glory for everything.
Simon’s humility is not only in accepting his creaturely weaknesses and limitations, but more so in accepting his sinfulness. But the end of humility, just like its beginning, is focused on God, not on self. And the goal of humility is not to make people feel bad about themselves, but to cause them to depend upon, and rejoice in, and glorify God for everything, including the salvation from their sins and sinfulness. Therefore,humility does not merely bring us low, but raises Jesus high as the gracious Savior whom sinners like us completely depend upon for absolutely everything!
