Advent — Psalm 77
Christmas is a reminder that we should hope in and rejoice in Jesus for all that He is, has done, and promises to do when we comes again. But our hearts are too often clouded by our emotions, which turns our focus onto ourselves and away from Christ. This gives way to emotionally induced amnesia about God. Forgetting important truths about God keeps us from focusing on Jesus as we should, with hope and joy, faith and praise.
So during the season of Advent we are called to look back, remembering the ways and character of God in His promises kept. For through this, God refocuses us on Him, strengthens our faith, stirs up our hope, and leads us to praise Him as we see Him as the Faithful One who is the same today and tomorrow as He was yesterday.
